As part of the Oman Convention & Exhibition Center (OCEC) campaign, Oman Tourism Development Company (Omran) has announced its successful completion of the Madinat Al Irfan Theater construction work package. Omran, the executive arm of the sultanate for tourism growth, said Madinat Al Irfan Theater was the country’s largest lyric theater and one of the region’s largest, serving as a one-stop destination for businesses and events.
Sultan Qaboos Rose influenced the development of the Madinat Al Irfan Theater. A statement from Omran said it is a three-story building that can accommodate up to 3,200 people. An landmark landscape in urban Muscat, the theater will serve as the unique platform for cultural events, art performances and conferences to be organized in the city.
The theatre adopts the highest conferences management standards for organization and includes 19 separate conference rooms in addition to an auditorium with a capacity of 456 people, it stated. Equipped with adequate facilities and supporting tourism assets, OCEC will become the Sultanate’s preferred choice for various events and activities, thereby helping to boost the Sultanate’s reputation as a world-class tourist destination, Omran said.
Recently, OCEC hosted regional and international events as part of the theater’s soft launch and collected bookings for various events and activities from companies and institutions wishing to host major events as well as musical, cultural and recreational performances. OCEC Senior VP and Project Engineer Said Bin Mohamed Al Qasimi said: “We are so proud that the construction of the Madinat Al Irfan Theater, the new OCEC building, has been completed successfully. We are now planning to complete the final project package.
The theater stands out as one of the major OCEC facilities designed to meet the highest international standards. It will contribute to the development of the sultanate’s arts and cultural activities and will also serve as a major event destination and a special tourist attraction for visitors, “Al Qasimi said. “OCEC is known for its strategic location in the capital of Muscat and is considered to be Omran’s first major project in Madinat Al Irfan, the potential urban destination for tourists from and outside the sultanate,” he added.
“The theater is equipped with state-of – the-art Audio Visual (AV) and lighting technologies. The theater’s cable infrastructure is equipped with lighting titanium cables that deliver high-resolution colors using ArtNet technology,” Al Shanfari noted. “The theater also features a sophisticated world-class sound system in line with an internal broadcast video system that screens high-resolution video programs stored in standard spaces,” he said.
